So, the question comes to me as to what the main thrust of this blarg will be. Is it a mainly political blarg , a mainly programming blarg , or a mainly bullshit blarg ?
I'm more interested in programming than politics. Obviously, since I'm an employed programmer and just a regular voter. But politics is definitely an important part of my life. How can it not be, since the government has the power to shoot me in the face if I don't agree with any of its laws? Okay, that seems a little overstated, but try not paying your taxes. They'll send guys with guns to come get your shit. And if you resist, guess where the bullets go?
The problem with blargs that concentrate on programming only is that they are boring as hell. There may be some that don't follow this rule, but they're few and far between. And if they aren't boring, it usually because they actually are more about politics. Not that /. is interesting, because it rarely is.
The alternative to one or the other is just a general bullshit blarg . You know, the bastard child of the E/N* website. Whatever comes across that's interesting to the owner gets posted. I like these kinds of websites, but they suffer from the fact that there are ten million other general bullshit blargs that post all the same crap. So the personal aspect, or rather original content that is highly relevant to my interests, is important.
My dilema is that I only have time for bullshit now. I have some great programming posts brewing in my intestines that I want to pinch off, but I'm short on time needed to properly craft and edit these kinds of posts. I also don't have enough time to fully keep abreast of the current state of politics in order to write anything more deep than "Lol, democrats suck" on the subject.
Hell, the Republicans are here in my city tonight for a national debate. Its an amazing opportunity for me to grab my camera and go shoot some pictures outside the Kroger Center** (in case any hippies show up), or get in to watch it, or even ask some questions of the candidates. A good article on it might get me a link on Ace or LGF. So, what AM I doing tonight? I'm going to State St. tonight and drinking. That, and planning for the Carolina/NC State game in October. Obviously, my priorities lay elsewhere.
So, here I am in bullshit land. And I broke searching when I overhauled navigation in my program. So, back to work I go. See you in a few days...
* Just a note on Everything/Nothing. Back before blargs existed, there were websites that would link to other websites and have original content and had people making comments on the above. Those were called Everything/Nothing because they were about everything and nothing. Of course, you add the personal aspect to it and you have a Blog. Sites like www.fark.com, www.ernieshouseofwhoopass.com and stileproject.net (not gonna link to that one!) are examples of early E/N sites that are still around.
Just added this as I couldn't find a proper link about E/N websites. The urbandictionary version sucks.
** Last year (or maybe it was two years ago?) the debate was held in an empty super store about a half mile away from my house. Its now a discount houseware store, like a shitty version of the Pottery Barn. If the debate was there, I'd walk my drunk ass over and have some fun.
If that will make this site E/N, then so be it. As I said in a post at Blair's place: I'm interested in interesting people writing interestingly about stuff they're interested in; even if it (the stuff) doesn't particularly interest me, they'll have something interesting to say. Capiche?
And if some readers don't like the politics, that's what categories or for. Hmmm, exercise: Implement a "negative" category that you click on (or bookmark) that filters out certain posts. Hey, Pixy!

Yeah. I would like that negative feature. Not too long ago I was reading a programming post on another blarg and, like I usually do when I find a decent post on a blarg , I checked out the other articles. I found the guy was a bit of a leftie douchebag. A little research found a picture of the guy wearing a pair of "No Bush" panties on his head. So, after mocking him suitably, I left and never went back. The whole politics thing put me off the programming side completely.
I'm not proud saying that. Its one of the things about politics that pisses me off. You should be able to disagree with somebody and not feel the need to cut yourself completely off from them if you don't agree. Hell, if I always did that, I'd only stay in touch with two people in my family. But, honestly, its how I felt when I saw his other posts. I just lost complete interest in his blarg .
Even though I feel that way I don't want people to feel that way about the programming side of my blarg . Its that old hypocrite thing. I think if I get real serious on running a blarg with good quality programming posts I'll have to almost completely separate one from the other. Maybe even go so far as to post programming stuff on a different domain under my real name.
Anyhow, its all free, so I guess it doesn't matter much right now...
