How sad is it when the number one hit for your website is a cyber squatter loitering around your domain? I'm definitely doing something wrong.
So, the question comes to me as to what the main thrust of this blarg will be. Is it a mainly political blarg , a mainly programming blarg , or a mainly bullshit blarg ?
I'm more interested in programming than politics. Obviously, since I'm an employed programmer and just a regular voter. But politics is definitely an important part of my life. How can it not be, since the government has the power to shoot me in the face if I don't agree with any of its laws? Okay, that seems a little overstated, but try not paying your taxes. They'll send guys with guns to come get your shit. And if you resist, guess where the bullets go?
The problem with blargs that concentrate on programming only is that they are boring as hell. There may be some that don't follow this rule, but they're few and far between. And if they aren't boring, it usually because they actually are more about politics. Not that /. is interesting, because it rarely is.
The alternative to one or the other is just a general bullshit blarg . You know, the bastard child of the E/N* website. Whatever comes across that's interesting to the owner gets posted. I like these kinds of websites, but they suffer from the fact that there are ten million other general bullshit blargs that post all the same crap. So the personal aspect, or rather original content that is highly relevant to my interests, is important.
My dilema is that I only have time for bullshit now. I have some great programming posts brewing in my intestines that I want to pinch off, but I'm short on time needed to properly craft and edit these kinds of posts. I also don't have enough time to fully keep abreast of the current state of politics in order to write anything more deep than "Lol, democrats suck" on the subject.
Hell, the Republicans are here in my city tonight for a national debate. Its an amazing opportunity for me to grab my camera and go shoot some pictures outside the Kroger Center** (in case any hippies show up), or get in to watch it, or even ask some questions of the candidates. A good article on it might get me a link on Ace or LGF. So, what AM I doing tonight? I'm going to State St. tonight and drinking. That, and planning for the Carolina/NC State game in October. Obviously, my priorities lay elsewhere.
So, here I am in bullshit land. And I broke searching when I overhauled navigation in my program. So, back to work I go. See you in a few days...
Yay!
Okay, it may seem a little out of left field, but I just got back from spin class, where I found out that 60$ worth of gear from Dick's Sports (don't laugh) can keep your ass from hurting.
Now, you wouldn't normaly think that anything you get from Dicks would prevent your ass from hurting, but believe me. It can be accomplished. A lovely 20$ gel bike seat cover and a pair of 40$ XX bike shorts (I'm not fat, I'm big boned) did wonders for my special place.
Since class, I've had two smokes and eaten a steak.
On other fronts, posting is still slow due to the release I'm working on. I'm stacking up tons of material for programming posts, if I ever get around to them. Stuff about sql queries, adapting the singleton pattern to ASP.NET applications, shit like that.
And, one last thing, I'm proud to see my photoshop up on Ace's blarg again. If you haven't seen it, its a shoop I wooped on Andrew Sullivan's blarg's header's picture's. Here it is (fair use, etc):

The guy is a nutbag, and I have it on good authority that he's also a f-4-g. Not that there's anything wrong with that; I have a secret Man Crush on Ace. Wait, did I just type that out, specifically linking to a definition of Man Crush at UrbanDictionary?
Anyhow, wish me luck on the project. We've had about four or five slips at the end here. Its a relatively minor release, so we only lost about a month and a half. But shit like this isn't going to swing for the projects we're working on for the next year or two.
ULTRA GAY UPDATE! As if this post wasn't queer enough... The artist who drew the origina pic for Andy's blarg is Terry Colon, who's art is regularly featured on Suck.com. The irony is almost as plentiful as goldy or bronzy.
I swear to fucking God... I have to go through another iteration of developing against this piece of bullshit program written in fucking vb6 I will get fired. They'll have to fire me after I go batshit crazy and burn down my cubicle.
I can't see how its gone as far as it has. If it wasn't for the fact we are in the process of a complete redesign I'd be looking for another job. Christ.
Man, been slow around here. I'm a bit down on posting because of a release that's coming in the next week. I'm still trying to get test data in the database. I'd love to whip up a camwhore-like shot of Obama trolling for underage girls on MySpace, but I can't find the time right now.
Anyhow, Roll Call! Post if you give a shit. All subjects... Kinda, I dunno, kinda like an open discussion. Yeah, an open thread. That sounds cool.
So the big weight loss competition ended at work on Friday. I came in second with 11.something% body weight lost. NotMcGurk on here won first with over 13%. No, we weren't the only ones competing; about twenty people signed on at the beginning, and about ten still gave a shit at the end.
In celebration, I give you a treat: Old Sturbridge Village Oatmeal Cookies. They're the best oatmeal cookies I've ever had. Probably the best of any type cookies I've ever had. Also, they are great as a base for other types of cookies (PB, chocolate chip, etc). The recipe is as follows:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (mix with whole wheat flour if you prefer)
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1 ½ tsps baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsps vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375 and grease two cookie sheets. Cream together the sugar and shortening, add beaten eggs, vanilla. Combine flour, soda and salt and add with oats. Mix well. Put some white sugar in a wide bowl. Pinch off walnut size pieces of dough and roll them with your hands into balls and roll the balls in the white sugar before placing them on the cookie sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes. Recipe makes about 4 dozen large soft cookies. The dough may also be fashioned into long rolls and chilled and then sliced to make 6 dozen thinner crisp cookies.
You can optionally add chocolate chips or peanut butter (half cup of each) for additional flavor.
